I love it when people get upset about Obama bowing to Asian leaders.
It happened briefly during the election at the peak of the economic crisis but that was so fleeting and brief that you could literally watch the whole thing unfold in one sitting...maybe ordering a pizza in the middle and taking a couple bathroom breaks but that's about it. It was quick.
I'm so sad that it really, really, really, honestly and truly is just about the business of being employed by the government (see: getting and staying elected).
I believe in my heart that the public is a coiled spring waiting for someone who is almost 'retro' in their call to public service.
It's all so undignified now.

It wasn't that he bowed, it was that he bowed way too deeply for a head-of-state to bow to even the Emperor. I don't think we should be making a big deal about it, but whichever idiot diplomat who told him to do that should probably be sacked.
I'm not even sure *I* would bow that low to the Emperor, unless I was apologizing for fertilizing his granddaughter or something.
